Valorant is the latest project of Riot Games, a game developer best known for League of Legends, a multiplayer hero battle arena. However, this new game that is currently undergoing a beta test won't be another MOBA hit – instead, Valorant is a dynamic and unforgiving online shooter that continues the gameplay traditions of the Counter-Strike franchise.
Graphics and Sound 3.5/5
The overall visual style of Valorant leans towards the more cartoonish look, with everything from levels and decorations to the character design constantly reminding you of Overwatch. However, the color scheme is much more realistic – actually, it's dominated by pastel shades and smooth lines almost to the point of becoming outright bland. But these modest graphics seem to correspond the gameplay a lot better than the vibrant chaos of other modern multiplayer shooters, providing a great background for swift and deadly encounters that usually last a second or two.
Valorant's gameplay mechanics rely on rapid movement and precise shooting, and that is why it has a great control system that is simple and responsive. Moving and aiming feels smooth due to the developers' determination to provide you with as many FPS as possible. Modern systems will be able to show you more than 140 frames per second, allowing you to utilize every millisecond.
The gameplay is a combination of highly-lethal shooting that makes your skill matter – and a variety of special abilities that are unique for every character. While these abilities tend to mix with deep and minimalistic gunplay rather well, the characters themselves are easily forgettable, and Riot should put more work into their design.
Lasting Appeal 3.5/5
The main gameplay concept may be rather unoriginal, but its implementation seems pretty engaging and unforgiving. The weapons are deadly and diverse, allowing you to find your favorites and master them. Valorant could use a bit more balance, but it's still in beta test, so by the release time, it will probably be even more playable and deep.
Not too original in terms of gameplay mechanics, Valorant offers a swift, deadly shooting action for endless multiplayer skirmishes with your friends.
