Not quite the most popular videoconferencing app, Jitsi Meet still has its selection of interesting and pretty useful features. The list includes advanced encryption, high video and audio quality, and free calls to contacts all around the world. But the most original feature of Jitsi Meet is that the app lacks any limits on the number of users per conference. Let's see how exactly that works.
Design and Usability 3.5/5
The interface of Jitsi Meet is typical for videoconferencing apps: the main menu contains tabs with voice and video features, and you can switch between them with just a tap. Videos are crystal clear, and audio quality is pretty high – if your Internet connection is fast enough, that is. The app doesn't limit the number of possible participants for your virtual meetings, so you have to think about these limits yourself, or else you risk freezing the entire conversation. I've encountered this way too often, and there's nothing more annoying than having to gather a meeting with a dozen people once again.
Key Functions 3/5
Jitsi Meet offers HD video calls with high-quality audio that can be accessed via any browser – you don't have to create an account or even install the app to participate. New members can be invited to your meetings simply by sharing a short link that's easy to remember. However, the most interesting feature of Jitsi Meet is its lack of any artificial limit on the number of possible members of one call: you are limited only by physical factors like bandwidth. While that may seem like a great advantage, this feature has little practical use. The app seems to be quite demanding for the Internet connection quality, and even relatively small meetings tend to freeze or mute random members.
The app claims to be highly encrypted and thus secure. Indeed, your virtual meeting room can have a lock, a password that is required to access that chat. But all these measures just don't seem to work since random people enter your conversations all the time. And when that happens, you do not have a single way to control the situation.
Despite having a couple of promising features, Jitsi Meet fails to provide a stable and secure contact with your friends and colleagues. Let's hope the problems will be fixed in later updates.
